“From whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” - Ephesians 4:16

Our Vision and Intent

Physical Education holistically enriches pupils through a challenging, innovative, fun and stimulating curriculum empowering them to be aspirational, discovering and developing their unique god given talents, skills and knowledge.

We believe pupils should be enriched holistically through a challenging, innovative, fun and stimulating curriculum empowering each student to become aspirational, discovering and their unique god given talents, skills and knowledge. We believe that physical education opens doors to a healthier lifestyle and we want to take our pupils on a journey to educate them to manage this independently. We will passionately teach Sport, not only because it is a requirement of the National Curriculum, but because the enjoyment the pupils experience, coupled with the inherent skills and compositional ideas each sport develops can be applied across all walks of life whether that be respect, sportsmanship or competition. We will teach scientifically and take our pupils on a journey through the human body.  We will explore the reasons why sport is a fundamental aspect of society and the reasons why this can differ across different communities.  We will strive for excellence in all we do.  Furthermore, we will promote differing roles within sport across our curriculum, because not everyone is a ‘player’, and PE is simply ‘Sport for All’. We believe the PE curriculum should be about exploratory experiences that pupils remember long after leaving our school community.  Our vision is to provide education in PE that is World Class due to a rigorous and challenging curriculum. Our departmental planning will be forward-thinking, innovative and creative aimed towards developing both academic and practical excellence.  Our PE curriculum will underpin World Class teaching, learning and attainment.

Literacy (including subject vital vocab)

With the introduction of new GCSE specifications for PE and Sport Science, the reading and writing demands are much higher, and as a result pupils need to develop new approaches to embedding literacy into their content planning.  Literacy is used both in a practical setting and pupils have to be able to apply key terms and vocabulary in a practical setting while at the same time be able to spell and apply the theoretical terminology in an exam setting.  They have to be able to explain the meaning of words and be able to spell accurately.
